KickStart for Kids is hosting its inaugural Period Poverty fundraising event on Friday 26 May at the
Belgian Beer Café. Local South Australian fashion label Sunset Lover will be jumping on board to help raise awareness, support, and funds for thousands of South Australian girls experiencing period poverty.
In 2021, KickStart for Kids Against Period Poverty was launched in a bid to end period poverty in
South Australia. The program is now distributing sanitary items to over 150 South Australian schools
every week, with the hopes to eventually reach 360 schools in the state.
KickStart for Kids is proud to be partnering with local business, Sunset Lover, who will be running a
fashion parade showcasing their brand-new collection at the inaugural period poverty fundraiser.
Sunset Lover is a purpose-driven, ethical business that uses compostable fabrics across their range of
resort wear, producing one-of-a-kind, luxury garments that leave zero footprint on our planet.
The Sunset Lover collections are designed in collaboration with the South Australian Museum and
Botanic Gardens of South Australia, drawing on print inspiration from various species of global flora
and fauna.
Their collections are eye-catching, encapsulating unique and luxurious qualities in their high fashion
pieces – a refreshing addition to Adelaide’s fashion industry.
Sunset Lover creative director and founder, Melanie Flintoft, said, “We love KickStart for Kids and all
they do for our state, so I didn’t think twice when considering partnering up for this incredibly
important fundraiser.”
“We are excited to showcase our latest Mythological Gardens collection which features stunning
prints born from botanical illustrations by Gilbert Dashorst of the Adelaide Botanical Gardens,”
continued Melanie.
In addition to getting up close and personal these luxury fashion pieces, attendees of the fundraiser
will be able to participate in a silent auction, enjoy live music from DJ Ashie, and listen to several
inspiring speakers including KickStart for Kids founder Ian Steel and event emcee, as well as SAFM
breakfast host and KSFK ambassador, Rebecca Morse.
KickStart for Kids founder Ian Steel said, “This event is a great opportunity for friends, families, and
colleagues to come together and get behind a really important cause.”
“We are thrilled to have Sunset Lover on board as well as a fantastic DJ and emcee, not to mention
an attractive line-up in our silent auction.”
“Everyone loves a Friday arvo in the East End, so round up your crew and join us in fighting period
poverty in South Australia. We need all the help we can get,” continued Ian.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will go to the cause, and guests are also
encouraged to bring sanitary item donations.
