Join the Adelaide Garage Sale Trail

Adelaide City Council is calling for city residents to take part in the Garage Sale Trail, a simultaneous nation-wide sale to be held on Sunday 10th April, 2011 from 8.30am to 12 noon.

Aimed at promoting environmental sustainability by recycling second-hand goods and reducing waste sent to landfill, the community garage sale provides a perfect opportunity for people to clean out their homes and get rid of some unwanted goods.

Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood says local residents can get involved and hold their own garage sale on the day.

“Rather than sending unwanted items to landfill, this is a great way for the community to help the environment by passing on second-hand goods to a new home,” Stephen says.

“It’s also a great way to mix and mingle with your local neighbours. Have a look through your possessions, work out if there is anything you don’t need anymore and then roll up your garage door or set up a stall on your drive way and have a bit of fun.”

If you don’t have enough space to hold a sale from home, the Adelaide City Council is providing tables at all three Community Centres for the sale of smaller items.

Residents participating in the event will be asked to donate 10% of their takings to the event’s charity partner, Keep Australia Beautiful.

Garage sale holders will also be provided with contact details for local charities that may be prepared to collect unsold and unwanted items such as furniture after the event.

Any leftover items will need to be removed from the footpath or driveways by the end of the day.

To register to take part in the event visit www.garagesale.com.au or phone 8203 7990 to book a table at one of the local Community Centres listed below:

• Adelaide South-West, 171 Sturt Street
• North Adelaide, 176 Tynte Street
• Box Factory, 59 Regency Street South

Registration is free and closes Thursday 31st March 2011.
