Join three of Adelaide’s best breweries for a West Side beer crawl

West Fest will see Bowden Brewing, Big Shed Brewery and Shapeshifter join together with guests invited to on a DIY beer crawl over one exciting day.

Scattered throughout Adelaide’s western suburbs is a host of venues that just happen to make some of the best craft beers in South Australia. While operating (very) successfully as individual operations, the three core west side breweries have decided to join forces for one day in September for the ultimate craft beer event, West Fest.

Bowden Brewing, Big Shed Brewery and Shapeshifter have teamed up to showcase some of the best Adelaide has to offer.

Bowden Brewing Co-Owner Alex Marshall says “There is an awesome up-and-coming brewing scene on the westside with Big Shed paving the way, us (Bowden Brewing) and Shapeshifter recently moving in.

“Ever since opening we have been looking for an excuse to do an event with these amazing people and Spring seemed like the perfect time. With 4 new beer releases, we’re really looking forward to seeing what everyone pulls together.”

Expect to find more than 50 beers on tap across the event, tasty food trucks from Pearla Tuck Shop parked up at Shapeshifter and Schnizza 1kg schnitzels at Big Shed, while Bowden Brewing’s MASA kitchen will be providing their untraditional Mexican fare.

Entry is FREE with loop buses en route from brewery to brewery for a ‘create your own’ west side brewery crawl. Buses depart every half hour giving you the ease of choice to hang back and take in the vibes at one brewery or hop-on hop-off at your leisure to continue your brewery adventure.

To top the day off, there will be your favourite local musicians keeping the good times flowing during the day and into the evening with a DJ set from the likes of Ryley Smithson continuing on at Shapeshifter.

Of course, what is a three-part brewery collaboration event without exclusive brews to boot? Each brewery will be releasing its own limited edition beer made exclusively for this event expressing each brewery’s style

“Nominating a hop and grain of their choosing that everyone has to include in their individual beer. The (breweries) choose their style, preferred yeast and any other additions they want to include to complement the common ingredients,” says Alex.

“We’ve decided to go a little left field and go tropical with our beer. But think light, refreshing and juicy – perfect for a spring brewery bus tour!” says Alex Marschall.

Malted Wheat, Maris Otter, Eclipse and Simcoe hops will be used throughout the beers to bring unity to the unique brews whilst giving them their moment to showcase their individuality.

There will also be one mega collaboration brew made between all three breweries in the style of a big West Coast IPA – a decision that was easily agreed upon. All brews will be available on tap and for takeaway on the day.

Festivities kick off at 1pm and will continue to party on till late – plenty of time for kick-ons!

West Fest will take place on Saturday September 17th
