Josh Teague steps up as deputy leader of the SA Liberal Opposition

Josh Teague has been elected as the Deputy Leader of the South Australian Liberal Opposition, promising renewed energy and strategic focus as the party prepares for the 2026 State Election.

In a today’s announcement from the South Australian Liberal Opposition, Josh Teague, the Shadow Minister and Member for Heysen, has been appointed the new Deputy Leader of the Opposition.

Josh Teague has represented Heysen since 2018 and previously held the roles of Minister for Planning and Local Government, as well as the Attorney-General from November 2021 up to the 2022 State Election. Throughout his tenure, Mr Teague has been instrumental in spearheading major community initiatives, including the upgrade of Crafers Park and Ride and the freeway expansion between Crafers and Stirling exits.

The announcement follows the departure from the role by John Gardner. Vincent Tarzia, the Leader of the Opposition, voiced his support and optimism for the future collaboration with Mr Teague as they gear up for the 2026 State Election.

Mr Tarzia praised the new appointment, speaking about the opportunities it presents for the party. “While we are deeply appreciative of John Gardner’s significant contributions, this is an opportunity for Josh to bring fresh energy and perspective to the Liberal leadership team,” Mr Tarzia stated.

Mr Teague said “The next 15 months are crucial for the South Australian Liberal Party, and I am grateful for the opportunity to join our leadership team as we prepare for the State Election.”

“I am more committed than ever to supporting our local community, advocating for enhanced services, and driving stronger economic opportunities and more resilient communities.”
