Perfecting the art of mouthwatering smash burgers, highly anticipated new burger joint, Jumbo, is bringing a taste of American-style fast food to Adelaide’s CBD. After an electrifying buildup full of pop-ups and prep work, Jumbo has finally opened its doors to a surge of delighted feedback and diners who just cannot get enough.

In the heart of Adelaide CBD is where Adelaide’s craving for smash burgers can be satisfied. Co-owned by Jimmy Garside, Saba Maghsoudi, Elijah Makris, and James Brown, each one of these talents have deep rooted experience in hospitality, flawlessly introducing American food culture to Adelaidians.

Saba Maghsoudi, who opened North Adelaide wine bar Pastel with Elijah Makris and James Brown last year, collaborated their expertise with Jimmy Garside, the former executive chef at Sydney burger joint Mary’s. Saba also co-owns sandwich joint Pinco Deli with Elijah, so it is unquestionable that these folks can provide some of the best that we’ve seen. From this, Jumbo smash was born!

Jumbo encapsulates a new movement in Australian hospitality, that in a unique way, strips back the fluff of food and wine and presents a raw way of dining out. This establishment focuses on and has perfected a small selection of a few food items and provides a fantastic selection of wine and drinks, really nailing down on quality over quantity.

Cooked with plenty of onions, their patties are smashed down thin, creating a crispy edge, adding deep flavour to such a simple food. Following the theme of American culture, pancakes are featured on their menu with the option of maple butter sauce and bacon or strawberry and vanilla gelato.

Recently announced that Jumbo will be running all day Friday from 7am-late and Saturday 5pm-late, it is the spot to be. A laid-back vibe which encourages diners to hold a great glass of wine in one hand and a fatty, juicy, saucy burger in the other.

Although the concept of smash burgers is American at its core, Australians are very familiar with grilled onions on meat, only adding to people’s curiosity of this food trend. That is exactly what Jumbo challenges – the trendiness of this food, making Jumbo a staple spot in the Adelaide CBD – where on every burger the protein is bigger than the bun!
