Kane Cornes joins Seven’s AFL coverage in 2025 with live game commentary

Cornes, who played 300 games and secured a premiership as well as four Port Adelaide best and fairest titles, is set to offer live expert commentary during games—a first for him on screen.

The Seven Network has confirmed that Kane Cornes, a long-standing figure in Australian Football League media, will join its AFL coverage starting in 2025. Cornes, renowned for his deep understanding and fervent commentary on AFL, will bring his expertise to Seven’s broadcast in various capacities.

Cornes, who played 300 games and secured a premiership as well as four Port Adelaide best and fairest titles, is set to offer live expert commentary during games—a first for him on screen. His role will also extend to providing analysis and opinions throughout the week across multiple Seven programmes.

His career spans various platforms in football journalism, including TV, print, and radio, which equips him with a distinctive voice in sports media. At Seven, Cornes will also appear frequently during the week to discuss the most significant and contentious AFL news and topics on 7NEWS.

Regarding his new role, Cornes shared, “I’m thrilled to join the Seven Network in 2025 and beyond. I have immense confidence in the network’s leadership and the exciting direction of 7AFL’s cutting-edge broadcast.” He further added, “The chance to work on the biggest games in free-to-air coverage and share my insights across 7NEWS and throughout the week is an incredible opportunity.”

Chris Jones, Seven Network Director of Sport, highlighted Cornes’ impact on AFL media. “Kane is an agenda setter who backs up his opinion with an unrivalled work ethic and passion for the game,” Jones commented. He also noted that the addition of Cornes is part of a broader initiative that includes the introduction of digital rights. Starting in 2025, this will allow fans to stream every game live and free on 7plus.

“With an already talent-stacked group of experts and world-class match callers, Kane’s arrival will further enhance Seven’s unbeatable AFL coverage,” remarked Gary O’Keeffe, Seven’s Head of AFL and Sport Innovation. He mentioned that Cornes would be joining a team of trusted voices, including Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw, Abbey Holmes, Matthew Richardson, Luke Hodge, and Dale Thomas, adding, “Kane will bring an extra edge to Seven’s AFL broadcast that cannot be replicated. It’s going to be massive.”

Seven’s Director of News and Current Affairs and Seven West Media Editor-in-Chief, Anthony De Ceglie, also praised Cornes’ impact on football journalism. “Kane is the number one voice in footy. He’s either creating the news or presenting the smartest take possible on issues,” De Ceglie noted.
