Kane Pollard, Karena Armstrong, Paul Baker, and Darren Curnow team up for epic dinner to support SA’s vulnerable mothers

The event promises a night of top-tier dining and entertainment, all in support of vulnerable new mothers across South Australia.

Flourish, a magnificent charity dining event raising funds for local organisation The Village Co, will return to Adelaide on Friday, 20 June at Ondeen in Verdun.

The evening will feature a five-course meal created by some of South Australia’s leading culinary names. Kane Pollard of Ondeen will be joined by Salopian Inn chef and Tasting Australia Director Karena Armstrong, Chefs on Wheels Co-Founder Paul Baker, and Food SA’s Darren Curnow. Beverages will be curated by The Village Co Ambassador and wine professional Tony Love.

The event supports new mothers across South Australia who are facing hardship. The Village Co CEO and Co-Founder Stephanie Malan says the need to support women facing the challenges of new motherhood continues to grow.

“Thousands of women are navigating the overwhelming challenges of new motherhood – often alone, and without essentials they need to feel safe, supported, and seen,” says Stephanie. “Flourish is a dining experience where we hope to nurture partakers, just as The Village Co hopes to do so to mothers needing assistance.”

Guests will enjoy matched wines with each course, plenty of entertainment over the course of the night, dancing, and access to a gin and whisky bar. Tickets are priced at $280 per person.

The inaugural Flourish event in November 2023 raised over $60,000, setting a strong foundation for this year’s return. Organisers are aiming to meet or surpass that figure this year.

The Village Co provides care packs with items such as nappies, baby clothes, and breast pads. They also offer self-care packs for women who have experienced miscarriage or stillbirth, manual breast pumps, and vouchers for a week’s worth of prepared meals delivered by Chefs on Wheels.

Since launching in 2018 and assisting 100 mothers in its first year, The Village Co now supports more than 1,400 mothers annually in South Australia. A recent report compiled with 180 Degrees Consulting revealed 56 per cent of mothers supported by the organisation are experiencing financial hardship. Seventy-one per cent face serious mental distress, often due to financial stress, domestic violence, or post-partum depression.

If you’re after a memorable night of incredible food, good company, and entertainment, all for a meaningful cause, Flourish is the event for you.
