Kangaroo Island’s Amadio Vino e Cucina Restaurant re-opens with new menu and fresh dining space

After months of refurbishments, the restaurant has re-opened its doors with a fresh new menu, an updated kitchen, and even more dining capacity.

Opened in 2021, Amadio Vino e Cucina Restaurant is a beautiful authentic Italian eatery on stunning Kangaroo Island. The restaurant pairs the elegance of Italian dining with its revered range of single-vineyard and heritage wines – and plenty more.

After several months of refurbishments, the restaurant has re-opened its doors with a fresh new menu, an updated kitchen, and even more dining capacity. The restaurant now also boasts takeaway capacity, for both the food menu and Amadio’s full range of wines by the bottle. Danniel Amadio said, “it’s a lovely new addition that means diners can eat in the restaurant or choose to take their food down to the beach for a picnic.”

The updates have further enhanced Amadio Vino e Cucina’s authentic experience. “The restaurant has got a great atmosphere that truly has the feel of an Italian seaside restaurant,” Amadio says.

The restaurant has also extended its hours, now offering dinner service every night of the week. Lunch service is available from Wednesday to Sunday, starting at 12pm and continuing into the evening. The extended service has been tremendously popular since the restaurant re-opened late last year. Amadio said, “We’ve been really busy and people are loving the updates. It’s been packed so bookings via our website are essential. Come in and try the new menu!”

Heading the restaurant’s brand new menu is Fabio Rocco Ricciardi, formerly the in-house chef for Ferrari’s Formula 1 racing team. Let the kitchen treat you to an unforgettable locally-sourced seafood dining experience, with the restaurant’s five-course seafood degustation menu. Or indulge in Amadio’s “perfect three course” featuring antipasto to unlock your palate, a delectable, hearty main, and your choice of dessert from the a la carte menu. For large groups, select the ultimate authentic dinner, boasting shareable family-style portions. It’s generous, nostalgic, and exquisite.

With Amadio’s extensive a la carte menu full of Italian favourites like pizzas, pastas, seafood, and dolci (desserts), you cannot go wrong. Try their famous traditional Pugliese veal mince balls slow cooked to perfection and served in a delectable Napoletana sauce with parmigiano reggiano – served with fresh rocket and ciabatta bread. For dessert, try the spiked affogato, a traditional Italian treat with a scoop of delicate vanilla gelato, a shot of rich espresso coffee, and a generous pour of luscious Frangelico liqueur.

With a beautiful wine pairing from the beloved heritage winery dating back to the 1920s, it’s no wonder Amadio Vino e Cucina is one of Kangaroo Island’s favourite eateries. The refreshed dining experience is as authentic as ever and Amadio says it’s not uncommon for travellers from Italy, France, Spain and all over the world to book for every night of their KI holiday. “It’s really the only restaurant of its style in the Kingscote area. Locals and travellers absolutely love it!”

Amadio added to its growing list of accolades late last year by earning the prestigious title of “best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world” at the esteemed AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge, recognised as the largest wine competition in the world. Following the win, Managing Director at Amadio Wines shared, “At Amadio Wines, we believe that wine is more than just a drink; It’s an experience, a memory, a connection. Each sip tells a story, and we are grateful to share ours with you.”

Despite Kangaroo Island’s severe early-2020’s challenges, namely bushfires and covid-19, restaurants such as Amadio Vino e Cucina prove the enduring nature of the region. Showcasing amazing food, wine, and the passion of the people who work in the industry, KI truly is a marvellous destination for gastronomy.

The restaurant showcases a culmination of three-generations of winemakers at the heart of Amadio bringing diners an excellent culinary experience in one of South Australia’s most stunning locations, Kingscote, Kangaroo Island.
