A host of the wives and girlfriends (WAGS) of Adelaide United’s players will team up for a special charity match against some of Adelaide’s well known female celebrities (including Glam Adelaide’s Kelly Noble) prior to the Reds’ Hyundai A-League encounter against the Central Coast Mariners on March 24.

Sunday week’s curtain raiser at Hindmarsh Stadium will be the girls’ chance to show off their football pedigree as they have a kick all in the name of charity foundation Make A Wish.

The Make A Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to help enrich their lives and give them hope.

WAGS captain Nancy Timpano will take on the goalkeeping duties but unlike her partner, Reds captain Eugene Galekovic, she warns that her skills between the posts would be less than what Galekovic has in his little finger. However, being for such a worthy cause, she is more than willing to be involved.

“I have never played soccer in my life but because it’s for a good cause I’m more than happy to put on the gloves and pick the balls out of the back of the net, unlike Eugene who knows what he is doing,” Timpano said.

The celebrity team will consist of a selection of Adelaide’s female media personalities, including Make A Wish ambassador Nicole Cornes.

“The WAGS will not be easy competition as they have all the tips and inside information,” Cornes said.

“I’m looking forward to playing at Hindmarsh and raising money for such a great cause that helps children who really need it.”

Former Reds players Angelo Costanzo and Lucas Pantelis will be the respective coaches of the two sides, while the match is proudly sponsored by Adelaide United’s official apparel supplier Kappa and Ricardo Vargas, owner of the newly developed studio teaching Jeet Kune Do, the martial art and philosophy of the legendary Bruce Lee.

Kick-Off for the charity match is at 4.30pm before the Hyundai A-League clash between Adelaide United and the Central Coast Mariners kicks off at 6.30pm.
