Yeehaw! Keg and Barrel has opened an Aldinga location, so get ready to say “howdy” to a new local.
The country western pub officially opened on Thursday, July 1, with all your favourites from the original Port Noarlunga venue.
The restaurant specialises in steaks, burgers, and ribs from their country-style venue, but they also have vegan and vegetarian options, and usually a fish dish. They also often have specials––such as an “outrageous burger” or a brisket dish.
Co-owners Alan Foreman and Ampika Wandee describe the grill’s fit out as “rustic and raw.” The venue, which has indoor seating, copious outdoor seating, and a bar with 18 tap beers––many of which are local––is adorned with historic Aldinga memorabilia and western-style furnishings. There’s part of a windmill on display, farming elements such as saddles and horse shoes, and more direct nods to the town’s history, such as a hung image of the building originally in Keg and Barrel’s place.
Using lots of palettes, wood, and pressed tin, the owners used as many recycled materials as possible, using old ladders and timber wine flats used to press grapes––which still have their reddish-purple tinge––to make the bar.
Foreman says they chose to part with what’s trendy when designing their fun, rustic environment.
“So many bars now have plastic, glass, concrete and limited decoration – They don’t have much atmosphere,” he says.
“We tried to build a place that we would want to go to, somewhere with character and a warm atmosphere.”
Foreman and Wandee, who are both business and life partners, aren’t new to venue ownership. The couple first opened a Thai restaurant, highlighting Wandee’s native cuisine, in 2012, and opened two restaurants shortly thereafter.
