Port Adelaide footballer Jeremy Finlayson and his wife Kellie have placed their three-bedroom character home in Hendon on the market. The property, represented by Ray White North Adelaide principal Rachel Lawrie, will be auctioned on Tuesday, September 24 at 5:30pm, with the possibility for bidders to participate both online and on-site.
Due to the ongoing health issues faced by Kellie, including a three-year battle with cancer which was diagnosed shortly after the birth of their daughter, Sophia, and the athlete’s own injuries, the couple decided to relocate. The challenges affecting their life necessitated a move to provide better access to medical treatment and to accommodate their support network.
Kellie, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy in hopes of shrinking cancer metastases in her lungs, shared both the emotional attachment they have for their first home and the practical reasons for the move. “We’ve moved just around the corner, closer to my treatment and the beach, which will hopefully mean I can spend more time in my happy place when I have the energy to do so. And means our daughter Sophia can grow up next to the beach like her mum did, which is pretty special,” she shared.
“In terms of what’s next, I’m currently undergoing chemotherapy to hopefully shrink the mets in my lungs and enable me to have a surgery in December which will be one of my hardest recoveries over the last almost three years. Crazy!”
Kellie’s favourite room in the house is the living room. “It’s so dainty and beautiful but with a lick of paint is also as modern as you’d need or like. I’d say Jeremy’s favourite is the land size and the size of the shed, which he was able to turn into a man cave for the past couple years, typical bloke!”
Kellie said the home was immediately livable but also has so much potential to extend.
“I wish we had the ability to do this ourselves but unfortunately my health is our priority at the moment. And our neighbours are god’s gift, they’re honestly the best humans you can ever live next door to and we will miss them everyday.
“In terms of health. Everyone knows that I’m on the hard stuff again, still doing all of the things to encourage a long and beautiful life while also living the best life I’m able. And in terms of Jezz, he’s finished for the season so needs a stable space to focus on his pre-season and come back next year at his very best.
“With the help of our families looking after me and Soph, we believe he’ll be able to focus a lot more on himself and have his best season yet.”
Rachel Lawrie spoke highly of the property at 5 Vickers Ave, noting its unique features and potential for expansion. “The original features such as the magnificent ornate sunflower ceilings are complemented by the modern touches and renovations this amazing couple have added to the home,” she said. She also pointed out the property’s appeal in terms of its extension possibilities and the engaging family-centric design that can be further enhanced subject to council consent.
Lawrie also mentioned the broader appeal of Hendon due to its rising market potential, highlighting its affordability and strategic location. “It’s got original characteristics, plus a large backyard and good sized garage. Hendon is a suburb on the rise due to its affordability and being centrally located to the city and beach.”
