Hidden beneath one of South Australia’s most iconic heritage estates lies a space few have seen but many have dreamed of experiencing. On Saturday 7 June, Kingsford The Barossa is unlocking the doors to its extraordinary Wine Vault for a one-night-only dining event set to captivate lovers of fine food, world-class wine, and unforgettable moments.
Originally built in 1856, Kingsford The Barossa has long held a commanding presence over the Barossa landscape, made famous worldwide as the backdrop for McLeod’s Daughters. While its 19th-century sandstone walls and sweeping views remain, the estate has since evolved into one of the region’s most luxurious retreats. But it’s beneath the surface, in the hidden depths of the property, where the real excitement happens.
Stretching 25 metres underground, the Wine Vault is a stunning example of historic architecture. With six vaulted chambers and a striking bluestone communal table that runs its length, this atmospheric space has stood silent witness to generations of winemaking tradition.
Cool stone walls and dim lighting create an ambience that simply can’t be replicated. This is a setting made for stories, shared plates, and rare wines.

On this special evening, Kingsford The Barossa partners with Magill Estate Restaurant to present a dining experience led by acclaimed chef Scott Huggins.
Known for his celebrated career spanning some of the world’s most prestigious kitchens, including stints in Japan and Michelin-starred restaurants abroad, Scott brings a culinary vision that is both refined and deeply connected to the local terroir.
Guests will begin the night with an intimate gathering at the Peppertree Bar, where Scott’s signature crumpet, a deceptively simple creation that showcases his mastery of texture and flavour, will be served alongside Penfolds Champagne Cuvée Brut NV. It’s a preview of what’s to come as the evening descends into the Wine Vault.
There, within the heart of the homestead under the historic arches, a four-course dinner will unfold. Each dish has been designed by Scott to honour the Barossa’s exceptional produce, thoughtfully paired with a curated selection of Penfolds wines.

“This evening at Kingsford The Barossa is about bringing stories to life through a menu that reflects both my vision and the incredible terroir of the Barossa Valley,” Scott says.
“It’s a chance to create something truly memorable, to bring people together and enrich the senses.”

For those who cherish life’s most memorable moments, this dinner is a rare opportunity to dine underground in a setting steeped in history, guided by one of Australia’s most celebrated chefs, with wines that have shaped the legacy of Penfolds.
With limited tickets available, this exclusive experience is expected to sell out quickly. For guests wishing to extend the indulgence, Kingsford The Barossa is offering a 10% discount on accommodation—a perfect way to linger a little longer amidst the rolling vineyards of this remarkable Barossa Valley region and make a weekend of it.
