Kitten pop-up adoption shop opens at Harbour Town

This weekend animal lovers can adopt cats and kittens from RSPCA South Australia’s first-ever pop-up cat adoption store at Harbour Town.

Shoppers browsing the stores at Harbour Town this weekend may hear some meows amidst the centre’s usual hubbub.

From 9am tomorrow until 5pm on Sunday, animal lovers can adopt cats and kittens from RSPCA South Australia’s first-ever pop-up cat adoption store at Harbour Town.

Harbour Town’s management has allowed the charity to take over one of its stores for the three days, at no charge. According to RSPCA South Australia’s Animal Operations Manager Tim Charles, the generous gesture could not have come at a better time.

“We’re in the midst of kitten season, with more than 600 cats and kittens currently in care across our three shelters,” Mr Charles said.

“About 280 of them are in foster care, most of them kittens that are still too young to desex.

“Being able to bring the ones who are ready to go to new homes to this popular location not far from the CBD will give many more people the opportunity to meet them, and hopefully make a special connection with one or more of them.”

Over the three days, a total of 120-130 cats and kittens will be available to meet at the Harbour Town pop-up store, located in the middle of the centre opposite the Peter Alexander store (see attached map).

To make the adoption experience as easy as possible for new owners and their cats, there will be a cat/kitten pick up zone behind the centre. This will allow anyone adopting to bring their vehicle close to the store rather than carrying their new pet through the centre and car park.

While bookings are still required to view animals available to adopt at RSPCA South Australia’s three shelters, no booking is required to meet felines at the pop-up store. Staff and volunteers will be on-hand to assist people wishing to meet the animals, and to ensure Covid-safe protocols are followed.
