Clare Valley

This $25 new Sangiovese Sparkling Rosé brings cherry, strawberry, and rose petals to your glass

Sparkling Rosé 2024 captures Clare Valley’s charm with vibrant Sangiovese, delicate rose petals, and celebratory elegance.

Knappstein Wines has been shaping the story of Clare Valley for half a century and their new Sparkling Rosé is proof they are still setting the standard.

Michael Kane, the winery’s senior winemaker, says this release captures the essence of what makes Knappstein so special.

“Our Sparkling Rosé is made entirely from our estate-grown Clare Valley grapes,” Michael says.

“It is lively, approachable and has a vibrancy that reflects the style wine lovers are seeking today. It celebrates the region but feels fresh and modern at the same time.”

Sustainability is central to Knappstein’s philosophy. Michael explains that protecting the land is a daily practice, but also a huge responsibility they take seriously.

“We focus on renewable energy, soil health and careful water management,” he says.

“Every decision is designed to care for the land while producing wines that highlight the unique character of our vineyards. Being certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia is recognition of that commitment.”

Knappstein has a deep history in Clare Valley and the winery honours it while embracing contemporary techniques.

“Our heritage is everything,” Michael says.

“From the historic Enterprise Cellar to the vineyards that have shaped our wines for generations. At the same time, modern methods allow us to refine precision and consistency.”

“Tradition and innovation work together to make our wines exceptional.”

The winery marked its 50th anniversary with the launch of the 1878 Transcendence range.

Michael says it is a very personal project.

“This collection celebrates our past and our future. Named after the Enterprise building and inspired by Fanny Filgate, it represents our top wines.”

Fanny Filgate was a trailblazer in Clare Valley, whose vision and determination helped shape the iconic Enterprise building and set the stage for the region’s winemaking heritage.

“Each bottle is small batch, showcasing Clare Valley fruit at its purest. It was the perfect way to mark this milestone.”

The Sparkling Rosé has already captured attention beyond the winery. Michael says it became an instant favourite at the Norwood Food & Wine Festival earlier this year.

“The festival had music, food and a lively atmosphere. It was the perfect place for a celebratory drink. The wine’s pink hue from Sangiovese grapes really stood out and people responded to it immediately, and we poured over 400 glasses in just a few hours. It was extremely popular.”

Looking to the future, Knappstein will continue to balance innovation and tradition.

“We will explore new styles like the Sparkling Rosé while refining classics like Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet,” Michael says.

“We also want to connect people with Clare Valley through experiences that are immersive, luxurious and memorable. The next chapter is about embracing opportunity while honouring our history.”

After 50 years, Knappstein Wines shows that respect for the land, a dedication to craft and a bold eye for innovation can create wines that feel timeless yet thrilling.

Knappstein’s Sparkling Rosé is a radiant expression of Clare Valley, marrying tradition with a fresh, modern spirit.
