Adelaide’s rapidly growing northern corridor is set for a major health boost, with land officially secured for a new Greater Northern Adelaide Hospital at Concordia.
The Labor Government has announced it has partnered with CLT (Concordia Land Trust) to secure a strategic nine-hectare site on the corner of Springbett Road and Concordia Road, earmarked for the future hospital.
If re-elected, the Labor says planning will begin immediately, with construction expected to commence early next decade following the completion of the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital in 2031.
Concordia is forecast to deliver around 12,000 new homes and between 25,000 to 30,000 new residents over the next 30 years, placing the hospital at the heart of one of South Australia’s fastest-growing housing corridors.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton said the Greater Northern Adelaide Hospital will service one of the most exciting housing growth frontiers in the country for generations.
“We are planning for the long term, putting a hospital where people are going, unlike the Liberals who are scrambling to sandbag electorates,” he said.
“There are communities across South Australia who have been burned by previous governments who have not delivered infrastructure at the same pace as building homes.
“We are determined to not repeat these mistakes of the past.”
The new hospital is designed to ease pressure on the Lyell McEwin Hospital and reduce patient flow into city hospitals as northern suburbs expand to accommodate the state’s growing workforce. The proposed site would place the hospital within 20 minutes of these communities under normal traffic conditions.
“We are thrilled with the announcement that the new Greater Northern Adelaide Hospital will be delivered in Concordia, supporting not only the future new community but the existing northern and Barossa regions,” said Concordia Land Trust Managing Director Warwick Mittiga.
“This health facility will be a critical support for the area and provides a further catalyst to the development of the largest growth area in the state which will deliver more than 12,000 new homes plus shopping, education, community facilities and huge areas of public open space.”
The Government has committed $3 million towards detailed planning investigations to ensure construction aligns with surrounding housing growth, with trades expected to transition from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital project once completed.
If delivered, the Greater Northern Adelaide Hospital would become a cornerstone of health infrastructure in Adelaide’s north, positioning essential services alongside one of the state’s most significant housing expansions
