Last Chance For Teams To Enter Bupa Challenge Tour

Teams keen to tackle the Bupa Challenge Tour during next year’s Santos Tour Down Under have until 5pm today to enter.

More than 150 teams have already seized their chance to take part in the Bupa Challenge Tour – part of the ŠKODA Breakaway Series – which in 2013 will be held between Modbury and Tanunda.

Santos Tour Down Under Race Director Mike Turtur said entrants could ride free if they raised $1000 or more as part of the Cancer Council’s Ride for a reason fundraising campaign.

“The Bupa Challenge Tour on January 25 is perfect for cycling fans of all abilities and allows riders to complete a stage of this UCI WorldTour event on the same day as professional teams,” Mr Turtur said.

“Team entries for the Bupa Challenge Tour must be lodged before 5pm tonight, so make sure to visit the Santos Tour Down Under website and secure your part in the action.”

Each team member that enters the event will receive a distinctive jersey or t-shirt, with riders to celebrate their achievements in Tanunda’s Murray Street.

“For the first time, next year’s Bupa Challenge Tour includes a 20-kilometre option that is ideal for families and anyone new to cycling,” Mr Turtur said.

“Riders feeling energetic can complete the full 127-kilometre course from Modbury, while rides of 92 kilometres and 46.5 kilometres are also available.”

Mr Turtur said cyclists riding from Modbury would have the chance to conquer the ŠKODA King of the Mountain climb in Humbug Scrub.

“Earlier this year more than 7000 people participated in the Bupa Challenge Tour, with over 2200 interstate riders and more than 60 riders from overseas,” he said.

“Now is the time to make sure you register, set some goals and start training for next year’s event.”

The 2013 Santos Tour Down Under will be held from January 20-27.

Visit tourdownunder.com.au for more information and to register for the Bupa Challenge Tour.

Individual entries to the event can be lodged until 5pm on January 11.
