Enjoy South Australian wines, Barossa vineyard views, and the warmth of a fire in a gorgeous new venue.
Laughing Jack Wines has opened a brand-new cellar door on their Marananga property, and it’s absolutely beautiful.
The new space is modern and spacious with a ridged metal exterior and “Laughing Jack” scrolled across the front. There are bifold windows on each side that can be opened to allow fresh air to fill the room, or guests can keep them locked tight and warm up via the fireplace during the cold winter months.
The winery has long hosted guided wine tastings by appointment, and co-owner Briony Kalleske says that although the space is now bigger, the groups will stay small.
“We’ve always taken the time to get to know our customers through a personalised, intimate style of tastings, and I tried to keep that in mind while figuring out how to do tastings in the cellar door,” she says.
“We don’t have bar, and we’re keeping one-on-one small experiences so we can stay wine-focused and won’t get too distracted by bigger groups.”
Open every Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm, the Laughing Jack cellar door will host seated group wine tastings for up to six people for an intimate, structured tasting of the winery’s current releases. With fruit grown 100% on the estate, Laughing Jack Wines offers everything from GSM to rosé to grenache to semillon on their online store, and their cellar door will offer everything that is in stock.
The estate has been family owned and operated by the Kalleske family since 1855, and winemaker Shawn Kalleske, Briony’s husband, started the winery in 1999 alongside his siblings, parents, and a cousin.
With seven generations on same property, Laughing Jack has been an ever-growing and ever-evolving venture, and the cellar door is the latest example of that.
“The cellar door gives Laughing Jack a home that people can come and visit, and it gives us a space for outreach to customers and the general public,” Briony says.
Book ahead to avoid disappointment.
