The Mental Health Coalition of South Australia is gearing up for its annual comedy fundraiser, Laughter is the Best of Meds, on this October.

This year’s event promises to be a hilarious night filled with dark comedy, witty jokes, and an abundance of laughter, all in the name of raising awareness for mental health and wellbeing.

Featuring a mix of both familiar and fresh faces, the lineup includes the incomparable Tom Ballard, who will headline the event.

Tom is renowned for his fearless and side-splitting comedy, making him one of Australia’s hottest stand-up comedians. With accolades such as winning the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Best Newcomer Award in 2009 and taking home the 2016 Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performer, Tom Ballard is sure to deliver big laughs about big ideas. His unique blend of smart, scathing, and cheeky humor, paired with a lot of heart, ensures a memorable performance.

Wundes, also known as Aidan Varnas, will be the charismatic host for the evening. Wundes is not only a singer/songwriter but also an established drag performer with a captivating style. With a knack for mixing laugh-out-loud comedy with soul-stirring piano ballads, Wundes promises to impress the audience.

Adding to the laughter is Marc Ryan, better known as The Beautiful Bogan. Marc, an Adelaide comedian, has been tickling funny bones across Australia for the past decade. His comedy journey has led him to perform alongside comedy heavyweights like Wil Anderson, Adam Hills, and Dave Hughes. Notably, Marc embarked on an epic tour, The Beautiful Bogan vs The Black Dog, where he performed 30 gigs in 30 days, in diverse locations ranging from mining camps to churches and even skate ramps, all to raise awareness about mental illness.

Joining the ensemble is the incomparable Granny Flaps, played by Lori Bell, along with Rudy Lee and Leela Varghese, returning once more to grace the stage. And making her debut at the event is the up-and-coming comedian Vida Slayman, adding a fresh and exciting perspective to the comedic lineup.
