Laws To Ban Single Use Plastics Passed The House Of Assembly

The Marshall Liberal Government’s laws to ban single use plastics, passed the House of Assembly.

To help celebrate World Environment Day on Friday last week, South Australian Premier Steven Marshall announced that the Marshall Liberal Government’s laws to ban single use plastics, passed the House of Assembly.

In the coming weeks they’ll be voted on in the Upper House.

The ban would see certain products including plastic straws, cutlery and stirrers being banned at first.

A range of other products will be considered for future intervention following further consultation.

The banning of single-use plastic products will also be piloted through voluntary business/retailer led ‘plastic-free precincts’, which will identify opportunities and challenges associated with transitioning away from single-use plastic products and inform the legislation.

It’s another big step forward for our environment as SA leads the way again.
