Learning should be fun. But between the cost of tuition and painful memories of failure at the blackboard, formally committing to further schooling can be daunting. Fear not, a different approach is coming to Adelaide.

Based on the principle that we’ve all got something to learn — and we’ve all got something to teach, Laneway Learning offers community sourced, informal evening classes in anything and everything; from astronomy to vertical gardening there is something for everyone.

“Laneway Learning challenges how learning is currently offered – it was created in the belief that people have a desire to keep learning, but find traditional courses too expensive, too long, or too much like their day job.

“Laneway Learning classes are an informal and social alternative. Held in fine grain cafes and bars, they are designed to be as different from school or office life as possible.” said Laneway Learning Adelaide founder, Lauren Williams.

Teachers are people from the community with a passion for their subject, whatever that might be. The idea is for scientists to teach about science, florists about flowers and bakers about bread.

Classes usually cost around $12, making the experience affordable and well worth it.

To make sure the experience is intimate and friendly, classes are kept around 25 people, so make sure you register early to secure a spot. Food and drinks are available to purchase on the night.

To register for classes go to adelaide.lanewaylearning.com.au.

The Adelaide chapter of Laneway Learning launches on the 1st of September, with one off classes taking place in cafes and bars across the Adelaide CBD.
