Monitor conditions warning issued for Mylor bushfire near the South Eastern Freeway

A Leave Now Watch and Act – Bushfire warning has been issued at 3:50pm for Mylor, MYLOR near the South Eastern Freeway just south of the Verdun turnoff, Hahndorf.

The previous leave now warning has been changed to monitor conditions.

Approximately 60 CFS and Department of Environment and Water firefighters are currently working on the fireground, supported by 7 aircraft, including firebombers and observational aircraft. Firefighters are also being supported by SA Police and SA Ambulance Service.

There is an active warning for this incident.

CFS firefighters are securing the fire area to prevent it from impacting the South Eastern Freeway. Various assets within the fireground have already been saved.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and Fire Investigators will attend the scene when it is safe to do so.

Roads are currently open around this incident however this may change at short notice. Continue to monitor road closures at: traffic.sa.gov.au

Smoke is impacting roads in the area, and visibility may be reduced. To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.

Monitor local conditions and stay informed if you are in this area. Decide what you will do if the situation changes. At this time there is no threat to life or property and firefighters are attending this fire. More information will be provided by the CFS when it is available.

The CFS urges those in the area to leave now as this bushfire may threaten your safety. Check that the path is clear and go to a safer place. Do not enter this area as conditions are dangerous.

The MYLOR bushfire is uncontrolled. This grass fire is burning in a northeasterly direction towards the South Eastern Freeway between Bridgewater and Hahndorf.

Approximately 25 CFS firefighters are currently working on the fireground, supported by 7 aircraft, including firebombers and observational aircraft.

What you should do

  • Check and follow your Bushfire Survival Plan.
  • Protect yourself from the fire’s heat – put on protective clothing.
  • Tell family or friends of your plans.

  • Leave now, don’t delay.
  • Roads may become blocked or access may change. Smoke will reduce visibility.
  • Secure your pets for travel.
  • If you become stuck in your car, park away from bushes, cover yourself, get onto the floor as the windows may break from the intense heat.

If you are not leaving – prepare to defend

  • Identify a safe place inside, with more than one exit, before the fire arrives. Keep moving away from the heat of the fire.
  • Bring pets inside and restrain them.
  • Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins and outdoor furniture away from your house.
  • Close doors and windows to keep smoke out.
  • If you have sprinklers, turn them on to wet the areas.
  • If the building catches fire, go to an area already burnt. Check around you for anything burning.
