With the success of the Campbelltown location, Zayt and Zaatar have decided to open up in a new neck of the woods at West Lakes.
Zayt and Zaatar pride themselves on Lebanese fine dining, with flavours and recipes inherited from previous generations.
Lebanese and Middle Eastern culture are so heavily linked with family and their traditional cuisine that it is almost impossible to separate them.
Adelaide isn’t well known for Middle Eastern cuisine like other eastern states, but restaurants like these acknowledge this underrated cuisine in a way that celebrates the best of what Lebanon has to offer.
As a proud Lebanese-Australian, owner Nedal Choujaa decided to open Zayt and Zaatar as a way to honour his fathers dream of opening a Lebanese restaurant in Adelaide.
“All our recipes are passed down from generations from the mountains of Lebanon” Choujaa said.

That dream started to become a reality in 2015, when owner Nedal Choujaa signed the lease to what would be the original flagship store in Campbelltown.
After the Campbelltown location opened, the Choujaa family was met with the devastating news of an arson attack on the business, which they were not covered for, making them have to rebuild and regroup under less than ideal circumstances.
And rebuild they did, at the end of 2016 the Choujaa family expanded and occupied next door, turning it into a 74 seat restaurant with a full revamp made in the coming years.
Last year saw the restaurant expand again in size with the addition of a Lebanese bakery next door during the day, and catered for an additional 14 seats (104 seats in total) at night.
“In 2021 I saw an opportunity and signed a new lease to build a super sized Zayt and Zaatar in West Lakes.” Choujaa said.
This year saw the opening of Zayt and Zaatar West Lakes, which has had an enormous reception that has stunned even the owners.
This family operation is well and truly solidified its place in Adelaide, as Nedal’s father currently owns and operates Zayt and Zaatar Campbelltown, while Nedal owns and operates the West Lakes location along with his wife and mother.
