The state government would like to pick up the tab on your next staycation in the city or the hills thanks to a new $4 million voucher scheme.
The Marshall Liberal government has announced a new voucher scheme as a way to entice locals to support the struggling hospitality and tourism sector.
The travel vouchers which are worth up to $100 will be offered to South Australians to use at accommodation across the state as part of a tourism stimulus package to support struggling businesses amidst the coronavirus crisis.
Available as of next month, The Marshall Government will be providing $100 vouchers to be used at participating CBD hotels and $50 vouchers to spend in regional and suburban hotels.
Premier Steven Marshall says that this COVID-19 stimulus package would provide a powerful ‘shot in the arm’ for the state’s $7.8 billion visitor economy, whilst also supporting local jobs.
“This is a call to arms for South Australians to continue to back the local tourism industry by rewarding themselves with a guilt-free ‘staycation’ in one of our many excellent hotels or accommodation providers,” says Mr Marshall.
“Every additional hotel night booked will result in positive flow-on benefits across the sector, as jobs – from the front of house staff to chefs, cleaners and baristas – are supported.”
Rodney Harrex, chief executive officer of the South Australian Tourism Commission says that this voucher scheme is a timely reward for South Australians doing it tough.
“We’re already hearing some incredible rates from CBD hotels who have signed up, that with our discount of $100 means South Australians will be able to stay in 5-star rooms in the city for prices they have never seen before,” says Mr Harrex.
A range of accomodation providers including the new Adelaide Oval Hotel, The Mayfair Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Hilton Adelaide and the Middleton Beach Huts have already signed up to take part in the scheme.
The vouchers, which have been aptly named, the Great State vouchers will be available for South Australians over 18 from Thursday, October 15 until Saturday, October 31.
They are valid for travel between October 15 and December 11 with Saturday night bookings except for the program.
