‘Liar liar pants on fire’ A journey into non verbal communication – 2012 Adelaide Fringe

David Ferrier is not the kind of man you'd expect. He's the Managing Director of Adelaide-based Resultzcorps, a sales development company and, for his first public show, he dresses as a weird surgeon, complete with orange felt cones coming out of his ears and a flashing red light on his head. He talks like a clown addressing a room of rowdy children but the fact is, he knows his stuff.

While his presentation is incongruous and badly targeted for his audience, his PowerPoint presentation on behavioural progression is really quite interesting. It's just unfortunate that he isn't.

Ferrier discusses, nay shouts about getting out of our comfort zones and breaking down our belief systems. When he's not fiddling with the irritating ear horns or blowing the one hanging around his neck, he is evangelistic in his enthusiasm for the subject matter, throwing up statistics and eventually getting to the crux of the show.

The basics of reading body language is really only the finale and he covers very little on the subject, although he demonstrates with 100% accuracy his ability to tell when someone is lying to him. The experiment, involving several audience members, provides more insight and entertainment along the lines of what was expected. Sadly, the rest of the show fails to truly engage or entertain adults and children alike.
