Independent filmmakers once again have the opportunity to share in the biggest prize pool ever offered by an Australian short film festival with entries now open for the 2012 SHORTS Film Festival.
Shorts was founded in 2002 by acclaimed film producer David Lightfoot (Wolf Creek, Rogue, Coffin Rock) with the aim of championing the abilities of emerging Australian filmmakers.
The festival recognises and rewards emerging filmmakers with cash prizes, valuable industry opportunities and prestigious accreditation.
The $50,000 prize pool includes an all expenses paid trip to an overseas film festival such as the Cannes Film Festival, professional production support, money for career development and a full membership with the Australian Writers’ Guild for one year.
A successful entry in the festival also has the opportunity for international exposure if selected to be included in a showcase to be screened at the prestigious Rushes Soho Film Festival in the UK.
Over nine years the festival has grown in success and stature, and is now able to promote its winners both at home through the main festival and Shorts Outback, and internationally through the prestigious Rushes Soho Shorts Festival in London The Shorts Film Festival formed a partnership with Rushes in 2007, which provides reciprocal screening rights.
The partnership provides a unique opportunity for Shorts Film Festival entrants to have their films shown to an international audience, which includes leading film producers, financiers and directors.
