The Sammy D Foundation and Sherrin have teamed up to release a limited edition football to highlight the SANFL’s 2025 Violence Prevention Round later this month. These special Sherrins are available exclusively at Star Discount Chemist locations throughout Adelaide until July 30th, or until stocks last.
This initiative is all about creating a safe environment for young athletes and spectators. The sales of these uniquely designed footballs will contribute directly to educational programs at local youth sports clubs, focusing on violence prevention and promoting better behaviour among spectators.
The Sammy D Foundation has been a pivotal force in youth violence prevention, established in memory of 17-year-old Sam Davis, who tragically died from a one-punch assault in 2008.
Jannine Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of the Sammy D Foundation, shared, “The Sammy D Foundation empowers youth to make positive life choices, and we are so grateful to partner with the SANFL for the Violence Prevention Round, which is a powerful reminder of how sport can bring communities together to spark real change.
“We were delighted with the opportunity to be one of the first charitable organisations to have our own branded Sherrin, and we are also excited to partner with a well-known and trusted brand like Star Discount Chemist to help us raise awareness about an important issue and ultimately prevent violence before it starts.”
Co-Founder of Star Pharmacy Group, Peter Gardiakos, shared, “We’re proud to partner with the Sammy D Foundation in our Adelaide stores, supporting education on violence prevention in our local communities.”
Throughout the Violence Prevention Round, 330 blue Sammy D Foundation Sherrins, along with promotional materials, will be distributed among SANFL football clubs, hoping to engage the clubs and their members in the program. This initiative is supported through various channels, including social media, e-newsletters, and in-store displays, making sure the community gets involved.
The proceeds from the sale of these footballs go directly to funding the foundation’s impactful work with young South Australians. By participating in this initiative, community members can contribute to a safer environment for the youth while enjoying Australia’s beloved sport of football.
This initiative is a key aspect of the broader efforts by local communities and organisations like the Sammy D Foundation to combat youth violence. The hope is that these efforts will create lasting impacts, helping to foster a culture of non-violence and safety across South Australian communities.
