Living By Design Brings High End Interior Decor And More To Your Doorstep

We don’t have the time to travel around the world to find that perfect coffee table, luckily, these guys can bring that perfect Mindi hardwood table to your front door… tomorrow.

When you’re trying to find that perfect piece for your home, you no doubt want something that’s unique, original and tells a story. Unfortunately for us, we don’t all have the time to travel the world, searching out these bespoke pieces from far away, exotic places, so you let Living By Design do it for you.

Created by husband and wife duo Tim and Rebecca Bowring, bringing a collection that works this well together is no easy feat. To find the perfect items, Tim travels the world, sourcing pieces from amazing and interesting locations, including Europe, Denmark, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Japan, and of course locally here in Australia.

Liaising with manufacturers overseas to design exclusive pieces especially for Living By Design customers, you won’t find many items like theirs in any other store in the world. While they don’t custom-make one off pieces, you can rest easy knowing that their stock is limited, so the likelihood you’ll see a piece similar to yours in your friend or neighbour’s home is low.

Just to give you an idea of how exclusive some of their items are – Tim comes back from one of his 5-6 yearly buying trips with 20 to 40ft shipping containers, which they store in their warehouse, full of products ready to be bought. The beauty of this, is that they do next day deliveries, which means you’ll never again have to wait weeks for your item to be delivered.

Tim and Rebecca have spent the last 10 years in London, Tim as an Institutional Stockbroker and Rebecca as Financial Controller for well-known brand Top Shop. They were a match made in business heaven: he could handle the buying for the store, and she could handle the finances. After moving back to Australia, they bought iconic Hills shopping institution, Balhannah By Design, from Tim’s mum and renamed it Living By Design. Together they now own and manage the five Living By Design lifestyle stores. By having Tim sourcing every item himself, it means they’re able to keep their prices reasonable, as there’s no middle man needing to be paid.

Their modern take on classic ranges creates a timeless feel, and with styles stretching from rural life to city dwelling, it’s easy to see why they’re so popular. With a neutral colour palette and the tactile materials, including pale, natural and cleanly painted woods, polished concrete, galvanised zinc, marble, copper and stoneware, and natural textiles like linen, wool, mohair and cotton, their pieces are a calm and simple addition to your home. In addition to homewares, they also offer fashion collections from Mesop, Morrison, We are Kindred, Chalice and Once Was as well as natural, Australian-made home cleaning products and unique ranges of body care and designer-scented candles.

The ever-changing product offering encourages you to mix product styles from different eras and bring them together for a simple, relaxed look. The lifestyle stores offer everything you need to transform your living spaces: exclusively sourced furniture ranges, hand-woven rugs, sofas and cushions and Australian woven throws. Exclusivity is definitely a defining point in a Living By Design store, as they’re the only Australian supplier of concrete-topped tables – so if you’re looking for a dining, coffee or side table, they’re the place to go. An extensive home-kitchen section includes Danish glassware, copper cookware, Cuisinart electrical, marble, wood and metal accessories.

Living By Design launched its Adelaide Hills flagship store in March 2015, an evolution of Balhannah By Design. The evolution of Living By Design continues with the couple opening four new destination stores located in the tranquil, seaside escape of Port Elliot, world-renowned wine and tourist destination the Barossa Valley, holiday destination Victor Harbor, and most recently their new city store located in Kensington Rd, Norwood. As an ambitious mid-30’s couple, they knew the one store would never be enough. They wanted to create a real brand, that was still Adelaide-owned. The Victor Harbour store began as a pop-up store over Christmas, but after a popular 12 weeks there, they decided to stay on. They’ve been open in their Norwood store for just over 9 weeks now, and with the inner city community embracing them and welcoming them with open arms, they have high hopes for the success of this store.

Open 7 days a week, and with new collections regularly, any time is a good time to pop in and have a wander.

Locations:
Norwood – 41 Kensington Road, Norwood SA
Adelaide Hills – 5/37 Onkaparinga Vallery Rd, Balhannah SA
Barossa Valley – 96 Murray St, Tanunda SA
Port Elliot – 34 The Strand, Port Elliot SA
Victor Harbor – Victor Central, 27 Torrens St, Victor Harbor SA
