Cemented as the fashion capital of Australia, Melbourne has always held a special place in this shopper’s heart. Travelling over for the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival this week was, undoubtedly, a highlight of the season. There is nothing better than soaking up parade after parade of amazing designer collections, which for the most part, are available in Adelaide via David Jones, online retailers and our favourite local boutiques including Wild Child StyleLab & Muse.
The LMFF opening night event was a must on the to-do list, and it didn’t disappoint. Famous faces were easy spotting, both on and off the catwalk, while fashion from the spectators both delighted and horrified our group. Some people get it SO right, and some SO wrong.
The first thing that struck me about the collections on the catwalk during the opening night event, was the lack of 80s fashion. It was time to celebrate. We had moved on. In it’s place were some fantastic new trends and a distinctive return to 90s glamour – the Bold & The Beautiful cast would be delighted.
Gothic trends were aplenty, with substantial amounts of black lace and leather making an appearance, with some designs bordering on a more bondage-style look. Not for the feint of heart.
White was also a strong look this season, with a mix of classic designs, capes and blazers making the models look like people you just want to know. Tartans and plaids also made a repeated presence on the catwalk, along with lots of bold clashing prints.
Guests were treated to the collections from Colette Dinnigan, Dion Lee, Ellery, Lisa Ho, Rachel Gilbert and many more, plus the latest beauty looks showcased by L’Oreal Paris.
