Lobster long lunch set to be this season’s hottest ticket

Enjoy half a delicious Southern Rock Lobster, alongside other South Australian seafood delicacies, at this Showcase SA long lunch.

When China slammed its doors on SA’s seafood exports, South Australians stepped up, and reintroduced themselves to rarely afforded delicacies like Southern Rock Lobster. While there’s never been more amazing lobster dishes available across the state, to our knowledge, there still hasn’t been a lobster long lunch. Until now.

Showcase South Australia, Adelaide’s premier business-to-business networking organisation, is celebrating their second birthday, and have decided to do it with all things SA seafood. And what better way, than with a lobster long lunch! The event is set to be held at the National Wine Centre on Thursday 17 June 2021.

Showcase SA is already known for their exclusive CEO lunches, and other high-profile networking and business events, so this lunch will basically just be the icing on their (birthday) cake. Normally their events are exclusively for their business members, but luckily for us, this delicious event is open to the public to attend.

And before you ask, you won’t be eating just a tiny lobster canape on arrival, or diving into a stir-fry looking for the odd piece of the sought-after seafood. This lunch will be serving up an entire half lobster per guest, and we’re excited.

Showcase SA, in partnership with Ferguson Australia and Michael Angelakis AM, will also be using the Agribusiness Industry Lobster Long Luncheon to launch Ferguson’s new, lesser-known seafood produce line.

Special guests Michael Angelakis AM and Andrew Ferguson will treat lunch-goers to Ferguson Australia’s seafood, prepared by the National Wine Centre’s award-winning executive sous-chef, Steven Clark.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet the iconic South Australians, who will be joined by the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development of South Australia, David Basham.

Angelakis and Ferguson will be showing off their sashimi skills, entertaining guests with a display of slicing fresh Kingfish. Guests will then be able to enjoy the sashimi alongside of Ferguson Australia’s new sustainable product line, which will be served as canapes featuring Latchet, Knife Jaw, Boarfish and Ocean Jacket goujons.

The showstopping lunch with feature an entrée of Kingfish ceviche and for main course, each guest will receive their own half Southern Rock Lobster with wines carefully paired to each dish, provided by Paracombe Wines, Penfolds and Rosenvale Vineyard.

Former managing director of Angelakis Brothers, Michael will share with guests his career journey from growing a family business for 30 years to filming his successful Channel 7 fishing and cooking TV show, ‘Out of The Blue’.

Andrew Ferguson will share how trade bans have influenced the agribusiness seafood industry and how the demand for lesser-known fish species has shaped their new product line.

Angelakis and Ferguson will also speak about their work together and about Michael’s collaboration with PIRSA and the South Australian Research and Development Institute to use his TV show, Out of The Blue as a vessel to promote the catching and cooking of lesser-known species.

When: Thursday 17 June 2021, 12:00pm to 2:30pm.
