Local Adelaide Lad ‘Southie’ Launches New Album

SouthieAfter hiding himself away for several months, Southie has re-emerged with his debut EP “Nobody Out There”, a truly exciting 8 track CD. Produced by Jarrod Payne at Studio Concréte, mastered by Jack the Bear (whose previous works include The Waifs, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Augie March) and with original artwork by Evan Davis, this exciting release shows Southie’s skills as a songwriter, with tunes that range from melodic pop to Anthemic rock.

On Friday 23rd July at The Promethean, Southie will give the public a chance to experience his unique musical styling, backed by a full band as he launches his debut EP, ably supported by talented locals acts The Adult Bookstore and Traveller & Fortune.

Southie (aka Tim Lucas) has been playing shows around Adelaide for over 10 years. He was part of Adelaide Band Tokyo Story from 2001 to 2003, whose album “Somehow Start Running” enjoyed national airplay, with the single Shutterspeed ranking highly on several local radio charts. Wanting to explore different areas of production and musical composition Southie began writing solo songs in 2004, and has been trialling them in small acoustic shows around Adelaide over the past 5 years.

During that time, his musical experience has had him involved in a range of works. He has toured to Hong Kong, New Zealand and the USA with the renowned Windmill Performing Arts’ production “The Green Sheep”, and composed the music and lyrics for a bilingual rock musical “Once Upon a Midnight” which premiered internationally in Okinawa’s Kijimuna Festival and nationally in Adelaide’s 2008 OzAsia Festival.

He also co-founded “The Green Bucket” an independent company that creates original works and performs them through various media.  “The Green Bucket’s” first short film, “The Masterpiece”, featured an original score composed by Tim, and was selected for the 2007 Best of the SASSA Screenings.

So if you want to experience the best of local music, get along to Southie’s CD Launch for “Nobody Out There” at The Promethean, Friday 23rd July 2010.
