Get ready for a night of classic Aussie hits and local musical talent!

New Shoots has announced the addition of two local acts to their already stacked line-up for the festival on Kangaroo Island this November!

Joining the star-studded lineup will be KI singer-songwriters, Sam Kempster and Charlotte Gilfillan. The pair will join Aussie greats Spiderbait and other artists like Angie McMahon, Killing Heidi, and Adelaide-locals Rat Tamango.

The non-for-profit committee behind New Shoots Music Festival is passionate about supporting the local community as much as possible, including the need to promote local musicians and artists from Kangaroo Island.

The two artists selected featured in the island festival Homegrown, the open-mic concert which ran at Penneshaw Oval over the Easter weekend. Both Kempster and Gilfillan have had long musical histories despite their ages.

Gilfillan grew up around musically talented parents and family – always surrounded by different bands, instruments and musicians. The singer-songwriter is excited to bring a mix of Australian covers and uplifting originals to the stage.

Acoustic singer Kempster will perform acoustic originals and covers, his style inspired by Australian artists such as Spacey Jane, Methyl Ethel and Paul Kelly. The indie singer has become a much-loved favourite to see live across Kangaroo Island and South Australia.

The highly-anticipated festival will run on Saturday November 20, and is sure to be a musical night to remember. A brilliant opportunity for music and travel lovers alike, the festival will offer campsites for travelers at the Penneshaw Golf Course, just a stone’s throw from the main event. Wandering Souls will also have their luxe boho tents ready to rumble for individuals keen to do a spot of glamping while visiting KI.

New Shoots was dreamt on the grounds of the devastating Kangaroo Island bushfires, where three local CFS fighters felt moved to do more for a community in mourning. From this, New Shoots was born – the name of the music festival paying tribute to the new shoots of life emerging from the ashes.
