Just last month, customers were devastated to hear that the Elizabeth Café de Vili’s location would shut its doors immediately.

It’s now been confirmed that a fourth St Peters Bakehouse & Coffee Shop will take over the location, and the process is already underway. The bakery already boasts three locations across the state, in St Peters, Thebarton, and Ridgehaven, the latest opening its doors in 2016.

Former football player, Damian Obst ventured into baking, opening the always-bustling St Peters Bakehouse around 25 years ago. With the three bakeries up their sleeve, Obst and life-partner Kate made the move to Noosa, opening yet another bakery, much to the delight of locals, The Bakers Pantry.

The bakery, known for its iconic chalk-board lettering, seen throughout the shops and on its brown-paper bags, boasts a huge range of pies, pasties and pastry-desserts. With an impressive range of pies and a decadent selection of donuts, you can’t go wrong. Meat pies, quiches, vanilla slice, lemon tarts, all the classics are there.

The announcement comes after the Elizabeth Café de Vili’s franchisees announced the sudden closure of the restaurant via a sign placed in the shop window. The sign read, “company in liquidation + ceased trading.”

Cafe de Vili’s on Facebook, clarified the information, posting:

Dear Customers,

Café De Vili’s (franchisor) and Vilis Family Bakery are aware that the company that independently owns and operates Café De Vili’s Elizabeth franchise is in liquidation and has ceased trading.

The Company, Café 24/7 Pty Ltd trading as Café De Vili’s Elizabeth, was a licensed franchisee of Café De Vili’s. An entity unrelated to the ownership and operation of Vili’s Family Bakery.

We remain fully committed to providing you with the high-quality service and products you have come to expect from our other sites, at Mile End, Hillcrest and Blair Athol.

Thank you for your continued support 💙

Vili’s Elizabeth was known as an absolute local treasure serving the pies, hot chips with gravy and baked goods that Adelaidians have come to love. The restaurant garnered over 3,000 Google reviews earning an impressive 4.4/5 star rating.

St Peters promises to fill the pastry shaped gap that will surely be left by Café de Vili’s absence. The opening date has yet to be announced.
