Sideways Liquor Co. Bar & Boutique Bottle Shop opened quietly two weeks ago at Prospect.
It offers an ever-evolving list of new and limited release products, supporting drafted distilleries, wineries and breweries from around Australia. It has a strong focus on Australian made and owned products, which you can try right at their in-store bar.
Sideways Liquor Co. is founded by husband and wife duo Mathew and Monique Pallister. After 18 years in the liquor industry, Mathew decided now was the time to make his dream come true of owning a bottle shop and bar. The couple decided Prospect Road was the place to do it.
“We are local to Prospect – we live in the area and recognise it was something the area didn’t have,” Monique said.
“Not only can you buy with the local focus, but the bar element adds to the experience as you can sit and enjoy a drink.”
The boutique bottle shop has a strong focus on craft beers, and they also offer a diverse range of spirits and wine. With predominately Australian owned and made products, Mathew says they intend to regularly switch up the ranges.
“Everything will be rotating and turning over, so there’s always new products to check out,” he says.
“There’s over 140 distilleries in Australia at the moment and we want to get as much of that Australian made and owned range as we can.
“If it tastes good or interesting and is unique using native ingredients, it’s got a good opportunity of being in the store.”
Stars from their range include beers from Wildflower from Sydney, Shifty Lizard from Willunga, Little Bang from Stephney and Pikes Beer Company from the Adelaide Hills. They also offer Coopers Brewery core range, being located 1.6 km away from the brewery and mirroring similar values to Sideways Liquor Co. in that it is family owned, made and operated.
At the in-store bar Sideways Liquor Co. have a wine and beer of the month which visitors can enjoy. They are also welcome to try any beer or wine in the store at the bar with a corkage fee of $15 for wine and $4 for beer.
Monique says they have big plans for the future.
“We will be having distillers, brewers and wine makers in on a regular basis who will do tastings and share their knowledge of the product,” she says.
Monique adds the community are loving it and have been really supportive.
“We’ve had several people come quite frequently already saying it’s fantastic and exciting,” she says.
“It’s the perfect spot to have a drink with friends locally before checking out one of the great restaurants on Prospect Road.”
Sideways Liquor Co. Bar & Boutique Bottle Shop is located at 99am Prospect Road, Prospect.
They are open 10am – 8pm Sunday to Wednesday and 10am – 10pm Thursday to Saturday.
