Local breweries team up for B&BBQ Reloaded festival

South Australian breweries BeerNoEvil from Glenelg and Blackwood Brewhouse have teamed up to throw a weekend of burgers & beer.

Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival may have been cancelled for this year, but that hasn’t stopped the festival’s would-be vendors from celebrating local beer and delicious food.

South Australian small batch breweries BeerNoEvil from Glenelg and Blackwood Brewhouse have teamed up to throw a “B&BBQ Reloaded” party on Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22.

The “BBQ” party, which stands for BeerNoEvil & Blackwood Brewhouse Quaffer, will see nearly a dozen craft brews on tap, local gin, and a range of burgers.

Blackwood Brewhouse will be pouring their own gin as well as seven of their beers as pints and tasting flights; Popular beers include their ‘Frog Stomp’ Saison, ‘Nippy’ NEIPA, ‘Rye Smile’ Pale Ale, ‘Three Blind Meese’ Belgian Tripel, and the ‘Lifted Kilt Army’ Wee Heavy. Fresh from their success at the recent Royal Adelaide Beer & Cider Awards, BeerNoEvil will be pouring four of their beers as well as offering take-away sales.

For food, Fancy Burgers––which has locations in Blackwood, Black Forest, and Kensington Park––will be serving up chicken burgers, beef burgers, steak sangas, a lamb burger, their array of hot chips, and more.

Blackwood Brewhouse founders Jason and Cherie Armfield say the two SA breweries decided to host B&BBQ Reloaded after the COVID-induced cancellation of Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival, which was supposed to take place in late July.

“Both Blackwood Brewhouse and BeerNoEvil were relying on retail sales at the B&BBQ Fest to fund their activities for the next year. With the festival cancelled, and no way to sell all the beers that had been brewed, and which were ready for sale, [and] things were looking a bit grim,” Jason says.

“So, we hired a local hall in Blackwood, teamed up with the enthusiastic and wonderful people at Glenelg-based BeerNoEvil, licensed the event, and hey presto!”

The direct-to-customer beer event will be two days of burgers, booze, and fun. To support local brewhouses and have a weekend of beer-fueled fun, be sure to check out B&BBQ Reloaded on August 21 and 22.
