Local Cabaret Fringe act selected for Melbourne Cabaret Festival

Exposing-EdithThe Melbourne Cabaret Festival has chosen one of Adelaide’s local acts to be part of this year’s line-up.

The show, which is being previewed in Adelaide as part of the Cabaret Fringe Festival, has been developed by Michaela Burger and Greg Wain and charts the tragic life of arguably the greatest French singer of all time, Edith Piaf.

Exposing Edith is a breath taking, intimate, original interpretation of vintage French pop songs made famous by Edith Piaf. Performed flawlessly and uniquely by songstress Michaela Burger and accompanied hypnotically on acoustic guitar with loop, delay and effect pedals by Greg Wain this show intertwines the authenticity of the vintage French pop era with contemporary instrumentation.

Michaela Burger [vocals] was the winner of Adelaide Cabaret Festival’s 2002 scholarship and later went on to perform in her own show as well as supporting one of Broadway’s most sophisticated songwriters, Jason Robert Brown in the 2003 Cabaret Festival, before leaving for Europe for eight years. As one of the founding members of Adelaide’s Weimar Room, she went on to write and star in four sell-out cabaret shows from 2003 through to 2010. More recently she has appeared in The Musical of Musicals, The Musical in four Adelaide Fringe sell-out seasons.

Greg Wain [guitar], winner of the Archer Jazz Scholarship, spent two years with London’s West End production of Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express and has been a member of internationally acclaimed vocal groups The Swingle Singers and The Shout. He played Robin Gibb in the UK’s Bootleg Bee Gees before moving to Australia in 2008 to play Maurice Gibb in Showtime’s international Night Fever Bee Gee tribute show.
