Sustainable, local fashion with a touch of quirkiness – Minski is opening a new store, Minski++.
Fashion accessories brand Minski is the brainchild of Adelaide designer Minna Roberts who has been making fashion accessories, primarily handbags, for about six years, selling at markets and to small stores.
Now, the designer has a shopfront on Melbourne Street where Minski++, the brand’s permament location, will go. She’s over the moon.
“I started looking in November for a shop front; It’s always been a dream, but I never really thought it could happen until then,” she says.
Currently, Minski’s products are being sold at a pop-up at the Adelaide Central Market, established through the “OmMade Meet the Maker” initiative. Minna said the move also came out of necessity as her house, which is also her studio, was getting too crowded.
“It’s just come to the point where I want to have my own space and move my workspace out of my home.”
Minna will be visible and hands-on in her new store, working to provide customisable products for customers.
“I’ll actually be working on the store floor and sewing bags, and people can come in and choose what fabric or leather they want,” she says.
Hand-made handbags will be the stores main trade, and there will also be other products, such as Japanese fabrics difficult to find in Adelaide, other Japanese products such as stationary, a few dresses, and a few books that “fit into the idea of being creative,” according to Minna.
Minna is really excited to have her storefront in Melbourne Street due to its central location and the fact that you can get a park, and it’s potential.
“With Melbourne street, there’s going to be exciting things happening, it’s got a really great vibe with all the cafes around it, and I’m hoping some groovy and different places will move in as well,” she says.
Minna is hoping Minski++ on Melbourne street will be ready to open at the beggining of June.

When it is open you will be able to find it at 91 Melbourne Street North Adelaide.
