Adelaide music fans can experience a taste of the city’s spectacularly diverse music scene thanks to the return of Woodville Town Hall’s live and local music series, Foyer Fridays.

Following a successful 2020, the free family-friendly music series returns with a curated line-up of some of the city’s most exciting emerging and established contemporary music acts for the Autumn/Winter season, which begins on April 9 and concludes on June 4.

Curated by Emily Tulloch, the celebrated musician and artistic director has programmed a stunning line-up of local music acts – Sabor a Cuba, Isabelle da Sylveira, Naomi Keyte, Nathan May, The Fiddle Chicks and Golonka – to perform for intimate audiences in the Town Hall’s historic and charming 1920s foyer.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with all these musicians through my various roles across the Adelaide music sector,” Emily says. “They represent some of our most exciting, unique, and dedicated artists. I have a deep commitment to our artists here in Adelaide, and so the chance to curate a program that will allow them to connect with new audiences has been fantastic.”

Emily says her program will give audiences a “taste of the diversity of musical offerings you can find year-round in our city”.

“They are diverse in genre, in tradition, and as a whole offer a strong picture of our creative music landscape,” she says. “All the artists are brilliant communicators, and so audiences can expect engaging and intimate offerings.”

The Autumn/Winter live series begins with a celebration of Cuban and Latin music on April 9 with Cuban street music band Sabor a Cuba (featuring Lazaro Numa) and Caribbean and Brazilian singer Isabelle da Sylveira (with Mike Bevan and Alain Vãlodze).

Sabor a Cuba is an ensemble of talented young Latin musicians led by the Havana-born trumpeter Lazaro Numa (whose debut album, Mi Cuba, was recorded in Havana and featured members of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club). Sabor a Cuba will be playing a mix of Lazaro originals and Cuban classics.

Isabelle da Sylveira and Mike Bevan, on the other hand, combine beauty, subtlety, energy and flair to bring to life songs that reflect the human experience and share a deep respect and fondness for the musical traditions of the Caribbean and Brazil.

Isabelle and Mike combine these essences with other broad influences to create music that is both profound and refreshing. They will be joined by the brilliant Alain Vãlodze on guitar for this special Woodville Town Hall performance.

There is more to Foyer Fridays than just the music. Audiences will be able to bring in food from neighbouring restaurants and eateries to enjoy in the venue and the series has teamed up with Adelaide Food Fringe for the May event.

Then there is the rotating monthly roster of local beverages from Scull Kombucha (that will hold tastings on April 9), Big Shed Brewing Beer, Wines by Oddio and Needle & Pin Gins that will be available to purchase in the Town Hall.

It’s first in, best dressed to be part of these intimate live audiences for Foyer Fridays’ Autumn/Winter season. To register, people need to go to events.humanitix.com/foyer-fridays to reserve their spot.
