Adelaide’s north-east has just welcomed an exciting new arrival for lovers of authentic Indian cuisine, and it’s already turning heads for all the right reasons. Located on a busy corner of St Agnes, The Tandoori Box is a family-run takeaway putting a fresh spin on traditional Indian food, and locals are calling it some of the best they’ve ever had.
It’s definitely not about flashy interiors or long wine lists. It’s about flavour. Real, from-scratch, no-shortcuts kind of flavour.

The owner and chef Amarpal Kang behind it all studied his Bachelor of Hospitality in India and then worked for Melbourne popular and modern Indian restaurant Tonga before moving to Adelaide.
Amarpal has spent more than a decade in kitchens, and says what drove him to open The Tandoori Box was the simple fact that no one was doing truly authentic Indian food in the suburbs. So, he did it himself.
The Tandoori oven is the star of the show here. It’s a nod to tradition, but also the secret behind their rich, smoky Butter Chicken, crisp Garlic Naan and perfectly charred Tandoori Chicken.
Even the sauces are made fresh, no tinned quick fixes allowed. Then it’s all packed into takeaway boxes that somehow feel just as comforting as a home-cooked meal.

Locals have jumped on board quickly, filling social media with rave reviews. Here are a few:
“We’ve had it a few times now and have been impressed every time,” said Christine.
“Best Indian I have ever had by far!” added Sonia.
John, wrote on the TEA TREE GULLY AREA Facebook group, “OMFG. It’s amazing.”
Meanwhile, Sam gave a heads up about their healthy new direction, saying, “They are about to bring in protein meal options that are higher veg, lower carb.”
Even the comparisons started heating up in the group, with Symone asking, “Better than Tomatoes at Sunnybrook? That’s a tough gig…”

Their new protein bowls layer up lemon rice, veggies and either steamed or tandoori chicken with spice-packed sauces. There’s also a vegan bowl featuring tofu and coconut rice with a tangy tamarind sauce. Many of the curries are gluten and nut free, making it an easy yes for a wide range of diets.
The best part? The business is built on family values. The chef’s motto is simple: only serve food you’d be proud to take home. It’s an approach that’s clearly working.
While the team has plans to introduce more regional Indian dishes and maybe even host events in future, they’re keeping things focused for now. The goal is to keep getting better, one meal at a time.
