Adelaide Lord Mayor candidate Francis Wong will continue his strong support of the arts in Adelaide if he is elected Lord Mayor. Cr Francis Wong says he’s committed to making Adelaide a smart thinking, easy living, world-class city leading the way in music, dance, design, theatre, writing, festivals and cultural history.
“When you look around the world, it is very clear that Adelaide is a great place to live and a welcoming place to visit, but I firmly believe it also has great potential to re-establish its credibility as a national leader in the arts,” Cr Wong said.
“With world-class festivals like Fringe, the Cabaret Festival, OzAsia, WOMADelaide and Clipsal 500 just to name a few, it’s wonderful to see Adelaide come alive with the energy and activity that these festivals generate.
“ I’m committed to growing our festivals and major events within the city precinct even further and intend to focus on nurturing Adelaide’s up and coming musicians, actors, painters, designers and performers.
“ My strategy will give us a clear line of sight into the way Adelaide will approach the next decade of investment in the arts.”
Local operatic sensation Grace Bawden has thrown her support behind Cr Wong saying he’s been a major support to her through the launch of her debut album and her forthcoming new album.
“Having someone like Francis putting his enthusiasm behind youth and emerging talent will be a huge bonus for Adelaide,” she said.
Cr Wong says supporting youth and nurturing their talent is vital to the future of the arts scene in Adelaide and Grace is a shining example of this.
“I will continue to focus on the arts and look at ways to assist young artists trying to move ahead with their careers in Adelaide”.
