Lorna Jane’s Quest For Global Active Living

It’s Active Nation Day this Sunday: the day where women are encouraged and inspired to mark their commitment to Active Living by getting out and moving their bodies.

LORNA YOGAIt’s Active Nation Day this Sunday: the day where women are encouraged and inspired to mark their commitment to Active Living by getting out and moving their bodies.

Spearheaded by Lorna Jane Clarkson, founder of multi-award-winning activewear label Lorna Jane, this year the annual national day is going global.

Developed in 2012, Active Nation Day had its first major event in Brisbane in 2013, but this year Clarkson said it’s going to be even bigger.

“Lorna Jane held their first large scale event last year, which involved a massive group fitness class that attracted more than 300 sporty sisters,” she said.

The Active Nation Day events will feature a 45-minute workout lead by some of Lorna Jane’s favourite health and fitness personalities and selected locations will also run a “Move Nourish Believe” market.

“Lorna Jane started when I began designing my own leotards to wear to my classes,” Clarkson said. “I was tired of the dull options available for women at the time and wanted activewear that actually inspired me to exercise.”

“The ladies in my class loved my designs and asked me to make some for them, which I was happy to do. Little did I know, this was the start of the Lorna Jane brand.”

Twenty five years later, Lorna Jane has more than 170 stores, customers all over the world and a social media ‘sisterhood’ of over 1.5 million members.

“The support of others can play a big part in achieving your goals, especially if you’re just starting out on your Active Living journey. Just two years after the launch of our Move Nourish Believe blog, the site has more than 90,000 visitors every month which says a lot about how valuable the sisterhood is.”

“Finding time to dedicate to yourself can be a challenge. I think the busier you are, the more important it is to set time aside each day to take care of your health. I make exercise a non-negotiable part of my day every day- no exceptions,” she said.

“I will be getting my move on at the Brisbane Active Nation Day event. Our workout will be led by inspirational Valeria Ramirez from The Well Nest and Bryony Atkins from our Brisbane Active Living Room, plus our amazing host for the day, Liz Cantor,” she said.

“I can’t wait to meet all the amazing women coming to join me and celebrate their health and fitness. I will also be doing a book signing and having snaps taken with all of the inspiring women that show up to support Active Nation Day.”

Those who can’t make it to one of the Active Nation Day events can still be a part of the fun by downloading the free Lorna Jane app, exercising with a friend and tracking their movements, which will be added to the international tally.
