Anyone who’s wandered down Hindley Street on a Saturday night knows Loverboy. The neon-pink logo, the infamous newspaper-covered walls, the sticky dance floor packed with partygoers double-parking vodka pineapples. It’s been a staple of Adelaide’s club scene for six years.
Now, the late-night haunt is getting a glow-up. Inspired by Ibiza’s iconic Solana nightclub, Loverboy is in the middle of a massive transformation that promises to level up the space, the vibe, and, in their words, “the chaos.”
“It’s been the same for the last six years, so we wanted to create a centrepiece and a real ‘wow’ factor in the nightclub,” says marketing manager George Magnisalis.
While they’re not giving everything away just yet, that centrepiece involves LED, screens and a “fully immersive lighting and visual setup,” admits George, the concept inspired by Solana’s striking design.
The updates involve a major restructure. The main dance floor will get a new layout, all seating is moving to the back, and the second bar – the one that greets people as they descend the stairs – is being reworked as a specialty cocktail bar.
With it comes a new cocktail list, featuring a soon-to-be-announced collaboration with a popular Adelaide food blogger. They’ve also partnered with Voir vodka, weaving Mediterranean flavours into the mix.
“They’re helping us with the whole new menu, and their blueberry vodka will be a base spirit for the bar,” George says.
The way the night unfolds is also changing. Loverboy Reloaded will open its doors at 9pm, giving guests an hour to sip cocktails in the specialty bar before the curtain rises at 10pm to reveal the main room.
“An evening that extends into the night – Adelaide doesn’t really have that, so that’s what we want to bring,” George says.
The music offering is also getting a boost. Loverboy Reloaded will double down on electronic, with house-dance music defining their new identity – a shift away from the usual mashup of greatest hits, pop, and house. Abba fans, I’m crying with you.
The refreshed sound will also spotlight homegrown talent, with Australian acts like Teddy Cream already locked in for shows after the relaunch, as well as a secret resident who’s “blowing up at the moment,” says George.
Some things won’t change, though. The branding will stay the same, but the vibe will be reborn under Loverboy Reloaded. And the iconic newspaper walls – a backdrop for countless party photos – will stay, nodding to Loverboy’s history even as it steps into its new era.
But wait, there’s more in the pipeline. An alleyway party is already in the works that will spill out into the rear beer garden, with Get Sliced pizza already on board, and others set to join.
For now, Adelaide’s club faithful will have to wait patiently. But with a soft launch slated for next Saturday, you won’t have to wait long. And the first 50 people to arrive will also receive a complimentary glass of bubbles on arrival. The hard launch will roll out the following week with DJs and plenty more exciting announcements in store.
The countdown is on until you’re fully immersed in Ibiza-inspired, devilishly wild, high-octane club vibes.
