Loxton Basketball’s inspiring journey goes global on Amazon Prime

The incredible journey of Loxton Basketball has been captured in the new documentary “Loxton Basketball: 70 Years,” now streaming globally on Amazon Prime Video.

A new documentary highlighting the origins and evolution of the Loxton Basketball Association has made its international debut on Amazon Prime Video. Titled “Loxton Basketball: 70 Years,” this work is produced by Six Foot Four Productions, a South Australian filmmaking company. Directed by John deCaux, an award-winning local filmmaker, the documentary shines a light on the storied history of this rural basketball club, propelling their local achievements to a worldwide audience.

Loxton Basketball: 70 Years traces its narrative back to 1949 when a photograph in an American sports magazine inspired two Loxton residents to establish a basketball team. Lacking knowledge of the rules, they invented their own guidelines on the fly, securing a proper rule book only a year later from West Adelaide. From these modest beginnings, the Loxton Basketball Association has risen to become a dominant force in the region. The film was released in conjunction with the association’s 70th-anniversary celebrations, which were marked by the opening of a new sports facility and a grand final victory.

“I’m delighted that this profoundly Australian story will now reach a global audience,” said director John deCaux. He described the foundation of the club as a whimsical venture by two men inspired merely by a magazine image, unaware of the lasting impact they would have on their community.

Loxton’s journey from a fledgling team to a celebrated sporting institution is not only a sporting tale but also a social narrative, reflective of the community’s growth and passion for the sport. This documentary provides an insight into rural Australia’s contribution to sports, often overshadowed by metropolitan achievements but equally significant.

The documentary’s global reach was made possible through collaboration and support from Regional Arts, Country Arts SA, and The District Council of Loxton Waikerie, highlighting the regional commitment to promoting local culture and history.

For those interested, Loxton Basketball: 70 Years is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, offering viewers around the world a glimpse into this unique Australian story.
