Adelaide’s beloved Lunch on the Lawns is back and better than ever at Government House are back for the 2024/2025 season. Kicking off last Friday, South Aussies are invited to pack their picnic baskets and enjoy a delightful lunch in the picturesque grounds of Government House, all while being serenaded by local bands and orchestras.
The gatherings take place on the first Friday of each month from midday to 2pm until May next year.
Mark your calendars for these upcoming dates that you won’t want to miss: October 4, November 1, December 6, January 3, February 7, March 7, April 4, and May 2.
Simply enter through the main gates, find your ideal picnic spot, and enjoy the lively atmosphere with friends and family.
Meet the Governor of South Australia, her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, along with her husband Mr. Rod Bunten and their adorable dog Alfie, who will often be attending. Or engage in friendly conversation, and immerse yourself in the community spirit of the event.
In addition to the delicious picnic vibes, visitors can also take advantage of free garden tours hosted by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens. These informative tours run from 10:45am to 11:45am on the same days as Lunch on the Lawns. Tour highlights include the fascinating history of the Government House garden, a look at the oldest tree on the property, and an interactive experience in the sensory garden, offer a unique glimpse into the beauty and heritage of the estate. Or enjoy a stroll through the Governor’s Rose Garden, with each rose dedicated to a past Governor.
There’s also a chance to touch plants in the sensory garden, visit the Governor’s Rose Garden which has a dedicated rose plant for each Governor in the history of the state, and investigate what’s in season in the vegetable gardens.
There’s also plenty of activities to keep the kiddo’s busy and in the sun.
Governor Adamson says this is all part of her and her husband’s vision to make Government House a welcoming place for all South Aussies.
“Bookings are not required, just come through the main gates and choose your picnic spot,” she added.
With live entertainment, stunning gardens, and a strong sense of community, Lunch on the Lawns promises to be a highlight of the season.
