Kies Family Wines has brought home a proud moment for the Barossa Valley, after winning the Interpack Trophy for Best Sparkling Shiraz at the 2025 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, earning a Gold Medal and an impressive 95 points for their 2023 ‘Cheers to You! Sparkling Shiraz’. The national recognition celebrates the craftsmanship behind the wine and the enduring passion of a sixth-generation Barossa family.
For the Kies family, this award is a huge recognition and far more than just industry acclaim. It’s a celebration of 35 years of family dedication and the loyal customers who’ve supported them along the way.
Managing Director Tina Kies shared, “We’re truly humbled. For 35 years, we’ve been so lucky to have customers who’ve become friends, who have chosen to walk through our doors and support a family business. This award is really for them.”
To make it even better, the award-winning wine, ‘Cheers to You! Sparkling Shiraz’ was created as a tribute to the people who have supported them all these years. “This wine was made as a thank you to our customers, the best customers and friends in the world. Every bottle of Cheers to You! is a toast to the people who’ve kept us doing what we love.”
Crafted by sixth-generation winemaker Bronson Kies, the 2023 ‘Cheers to You! Sparkling Shiraz’ is made from 100 per cent premium Barossa Shiraz and aged for 18 months in French and American oak. It’s rich and full-bodied, with flavours of dark berry fruit, spice and fresh tannins. The team used the best barrels they could get their hands on, resulting in a wine that’s bright, indulgent, and perfectly balanced, suited for the festive season. “It’s indulgent yet beautifully balanced,” shared Bronson. “It’s the kind of sparkling Shiraz that brings people together, whether it’s Christmas lunch, a backyard barbecue, or a quiet celebration with friends.”
The Interpack Trophy, sponsored by premium packaging supplier Interpack, recognises excellence in Sparkling Shiraz as part of the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, one of the country’s most respected single-varietal competitions, now in its 30th year of championing Australia’s best Shiraz. This isn’t the only recent award for Kies Family Wines either, as it follows a string of recent successes including being named a finalist in both the Premier’s SA Business Awards and the 2025 TICSA SA Tourism Awards.
For a winery that began modestly in 1985 when Tina and Michael Kies transformed an 1880s chaff mill in Lyndoch into their family cellar door, the Kies story has grown into one of the Barossa’s most enduring. Their children now carry on the legacy with Bronson as head winemaker, Jesseca managing marketing and exports, and Jordan following in his father’s footsteps with a successful career in property.
For the Kies family, it’s all about the people, and as the Cheers to You! Sparkling Shiraz continues to pop its way into celebrations across the country, it stands as a reminder of what makes the Barossa and the Kies legacy so special.
