Magician moves entire audience mid-show as Fringe plunges into blackout

The power outage across parts of the CBD didn’t deter UK mega magician Ben Hart when his theatre suddenly fell into darkness mid fringe show last night.

On Tuesday night, sections of the Adelaide CBD experienced a power outage, leaving many attendees of Adelaide Fringe scrambling for their flashlights. However, the setback didn’t deter UK mega magician Ben Hart from delivering an unforgettable performance.

When his theatre suddenly fell into darkness mid show, Ben’s quick thinking and true showmanship kicked in, grabbing a bag and completing the remainder of his opening night show outside.

The crowd remained up-beat as Ben continued his performance, engaging in his act and cheering him on as they circled around him on the lawns inside the Garden of the Unearthly Delights.

Distinguished as the “world’s foremost storytelling magician,” Ben has carved a niche for himself in the world of magic with his unique approach to the craft and combines the elements of magic, stand-up, and captivating stories, sprinkled with his trademark wicked sense of humour in every performance.

A familiar face on British television, Ben’s magical prowess has been showcased on his own programs and as a guest on others, earning him international acclaim, and his recent ventures include a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, an extensive UK tour, and notable appearances on UK television. In 2023, his show was honoured with the Bank SA Best Magic award at the Adelaide Fringe, a testament to his exceptional talent and appeal.

Beyond the stage, Ben is renowned for his contributions as a magic inventor, with his ingenious creations featuring in Broadway and West End productions. His collaboration with industry giants like Mischief Theatre and Penn and Teller and his role as a magic consultant in Hollywood highlight his versatile and innovative approach to magic.

Ben’s affinity for Australian audiences is evident as he praises their honesty, humour, and enthusiasm, and his interactive shows thrive on the participation of Aussie spectators, who are ‘always up for a laugh’, with Mix 102.3 calling him ‘the finest sleight of hand you’ll ever witness’ and the Australian Arts Review claiming ‘The one magic show you need to see this Fringe’.

So, if you were at last nights show or thinking of getting in on the action, Ben has a number of shows inside the garden until Sunday, March 17.
