The Mainline Drive-in has released its summer movie line-up – the final season before its closure.
Earlier this year, Wallis Cinemas’ Gepps Cross Drive-in took to social media to announce the closing of the iconic cinema in February 2022.
“Adelaide’s last remaining Drive-in Theatre at Gepps Cross is preparing for its last summer of movie entertainment”, it published on Facebook.
“After operating for more that 65 years, the Wallis family has made the very hard decision to cease its operations at Gepps Cross Mainline Drive-in.
“It was not a decision we have made lightly, but with the changing nature of the cinema industry, the introduction of daylight saving, film piracy and now the lengthy COVID-19 epidemic, we as a family all agree it is the best decision for the future of Wallis Cinema.
“The mainline will continue its operations through Summer to give South Australians one last chance to enjoy the Drive-in Experience with the light on the big outdoor screen being switched off for the last time in February 2022.”
It’s final season, appropriately dubbed “Our Last Summer; Memories That Remain”, will feature a mix of old and new blockbuster movies, that’ll see movie-goers flocking to the drive-in for the final time.
Classics like Grease, E.T and Jumaji, as well as new releases such as Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Sing 2 will round-out the cinemas 65-year history.
So if you’re feeling nostalgic and want that last chance at a taste of Adelaide’s drive-in history, make sure to lock in your visit to this legendary cinema before it says goodbye.
