Malaysian eatery Miss Malay elevating dining experience in new location

Miss Malay is relocating to a new venue, offering a more sophisticated dining experience and adding breakfast to the menu.

Malaysian restaurant Miss Malay is moving down the road to a larger and more sophisticated venue at 302A King William Street.

The changes have been revealed by Miss Malay owner Jason Yii, who says renovations are underway to transform the space such as repainting and removing the existing bar.

Miss Malay will not only have a new look, but they will also be offering a new experience for their guests. Previously focused on serving just Malaysian street food, the menu will be taken up a notch to offer a more elevated dining experience.

“We are excited about the move. We were previously more of an ‘affordable’ restaurant, like if you wanted fast and cheap meals. The new one is a different concept, is bigger, and has more of a sophisticated feel,” Jason says.

Miss Malay were previously only open for lunch and dinner, but they will now be adding breakfast to the menu, so they will have your cravings covered from morning til night. The menu is still underway, but Jason gave a taste of what people can expect.

“For breakfast, I have a business partner who owns a French restaurant on Currie Street, so we will order French pastries from him like croissants and danishes. Lunch will be similar to what we are doing now, which is Malaysian cuisine such as laksa, rice bowls and stir fry, and dinner will be an à la carte menu with individual dishes like salmon, beef cheek, curry and rice on the side and dessert,” he says.

The new venue will open its doors before November and they will expand their hours to open on Saturday nights to give guests a weekend dining option.

Jason also said they will also now have a liquor license, so people can enjoy a meal with a drink in hand. The wine and cocktail list is also still being finalised, but Jason says Woodstock Wine Estate wines will be amongst the options.

The interior is being painted light colours such as white and light brown along with pops of colour such as pink. Jason is getting hands-on with the renovations himself, completing the painting and counter bar.

The business started out as a cafe in Chinatown called Amicus Curiae next to the Hilton before they moved to their old location at 358 King William Street in Adelaide for two and a half years, where the business was renamed Miss Malay.
