A truck fire broke out in Tailem Bend in the Murraylands at around 1:30am this morning, with approximately 10 firefighters called to the scene to deal with the emergency.
When crews arrived, the truck was fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to the nearby grass. The driver had noticed smoke and a glow coming from under the truck’s tyres, which prompted the early warning.
The firefighters acted swiftly, arriving with three trucks to battle the blaze. Despite the hot conditions, with temperatures already rising in South Australia and more extreme heat expected later in the day, the teams were able to contain the fire using foam to reduce its intensity.

As a precaution, SA Police temporarily closed the Mallee Highway, but the road has since been reopened to a single lane. Emergency services may still be in the area, so drivers are advised to stay alert and check traffic updates at traffic.sa.gov.au.
The truck fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.
