Brighton local Sue Norman who is known for creating large scale beach mandalas-aptly nicknamed ‘sandalas’, has wowed us all again with her latest creation.
Sue Norman previously blew us away with her amazing Kobe and Gigi Bryant mandala, and has done it again with a touching tribute to Christie’s Beach local businesses doing it tough in the COVID-19 crisis.
The message, which simply reads, “stay strong Christies Beach,” was commissioned by local Christies Beach woman, Maryanne Masters, who wanted to show some love to the local community and businesses during this incredibly uncertain time.
Describing her latest creation, Sue says the circle and the linking were symbolic of the wider community coming together as one during this time.
As an art therapy teacher, Sue is one of the millions impacted by the COVID-19 crisis job-wise. So, she is using this time as an opportunity to create mandalas for a small donation for people in the community who want to send out special messages to loved ones or tributes to those doing it tough.
“People can’t go out and celebrate those special moments or travel at the moment, so it’s nice to be able to provide them with a little joy with the mandalas,” says Sue.
“I have this drive to help people, so it’s great to be able to do that with the mandalas.”
For Sue, the process of creating mandalas is not only therapeutic for her but also those who come and watch her mandalas come to fruition, as it provides them with the space to breathe and just be, something that can be quite helpful during these incredibly stressful times
“I don’t plan what I’m going to do with them (mandalas), as it adds to the feeling of being in the moment.”
