Mannum Hot Rod Day this Sunday

River Rod Runners dedicate event to long time friend this Sunday at Mannum.

Mannum’s annual riverside Hot Rod day is back this Sunday, with a cracking forecast of 28 degrees for the riverland town.

The popular event at Mary Ann Reserve will attract customs, classics and rods from across the State and Victoria.

This year’s event is dedicated to long-time friend and supporter, Ian ‘Stik’ Cameron who attended the event for the past 30 years, bringing his prestigious T Bucket from Coberg in Victoria, and always helping out on the day.

“We have named the 2019 event ‘Camo’s Run’ after our good friend Stik’ who unfortunately passed away last year”, said Hot Rod day Coordinator, Leon Warhurst.

“A special award has been created in honour of Stik, the ‘Camo Award’, with special Camo criteria, as the car should be “driven not hidden” in his words, not a trailer queen or a trophy hunter”.

“We usually attract around 200 entries with vehicles dating back to the early 1900s”.

The Silverados and DJ Jess are back with rock n’ roll music at its best. Dancing shoes are a must, as hot rods and rock n’ roll are certainly best friends at this event, with the riverside dance floor for all to enjoy.

“Mannum is the birthplace of the first steam car with a differential in Australia, back in 1898, and I am sure inventor David Shearer would be impressed as to the passion these hot rodder’s bring with their amazing vehicles”, said Mid Murry Council Mayor Dave Burgess.

“The Mannum Hot Rod Day committee should be applauded for the economic impact they bring to the town and region through this annual event”.

‘Camo’s Run’ will include the PS Marion offering one hour short cruises throughout the day, food stalls, live entertainment chrome and colour of all shapes and sizes.

Event proceeds assist the Mannum Hospital Auxiliary with entry only $2. The Hot Rod Day commences at 10am at the magnificent Mary Ann Reserve at Mannum on Sunday.
